This hike is fantastic, but, being in shape is essential. It starts out with a climb that goes up almost 2500 feet without traversing. That climb alone took me 1h 30m and I only covered 1.7 miles.
Once you get to the top, you go down the back side of the ridge. Until you get out of that switchback, it is steep and a bit dangerous at times, though the trails are plenty wide.
The major issue on the climb and the decent is the combination of mud, slippery tree roots, and most places not having a good footing.
Once you start down the back and you have gotten to the road, it is smooth sailing and straight back down to the parking lot where you then go up to the ruins
